Meet Dr. Juan Diego Umaña
Hello! My name is Juan Diego Umaña, I hold a degree in Clinical Psychology, and I am currently in the final stage of my Thesis to obtain a Master’s in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Universidad Internacional Valenciana (VIU) in Spain. Throughout my more than seven years of experience in the field of psychology, I have worked with people of various ages and backgrounds, which has allowed me to acquire a broad knowledge in handling a variety of psychological situations.
My passion for psychology began at a young age, driven by the desire to better understand human behavior and contribute to people’s emotional and mental well-being. Over the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, greatly enriching my professional practice. Recently, I have specialized in working with older adults, a group that presents particular challenges due to the physical, cognitive, and emotional transformations they experience at this stage of life. This experience has enabled me to develop an integrated and sensitive perspective on the processes of aging, the management of neurodegenerative diseases, and the importance of maintaining optimal mental health during this stage.
Psychology is a constantly evolving discipline. I firmly believe that learning does not end with earning a degree; it must be an ongoing process. For this reason, I have always focused on continually updating myself by attending courses, conferences, and conducting research that allows me to integrate new approaches and tools into my therapeutic work. This commitment to staying updated enables me to keep abreast of the latest advances in neuropsychology, psychotherapy, and other branches of clinical psychology, to offer my patients an increasingly effective service adapted to their needs and circumstances.
My therapeutic approach is based on active listening, respect, and empathy. To me, every patient is unique, and the process of accompaniment must be personalized. It is not only about treating the symptoms or issues a person may be experiencing but about deeply understanding their history, emotions, and thoughts. Through various therapeutic techniques and approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, neuropsychology, and evidence-based interventions, my goal is to help people overcome emotional obstacles, develop tools to face their difficulties, and achieve a greater understanding and acceptance of themselves.
Moreover, I believe that psychology should be accessible to everyone, which is why I work in an environment where my patients feel comfortable and safe, knowing that their well-being is the priority. I not only focus on the individual seeking support but also on their family and social context, as family dynamics and social relationships often significantly influence the mental health process.
My commitment to my profession drives me to provide comprehensive and quality service. My purpose is to contribute to improving the quality of life of the people I work with, supporting them in understanding their mental and emotional processes, better managing their emotions and behaviors, and successfully facing the challenges that arise in life.
I am here to offer you my professional support, and I will be delighted to accompany you and your family on the journey to emotional and mental well-being. Whether you are facing a difficult situation, need guidance in your personal development, or want to explore aspects related to the mental health of your loved ones, I will be available to provide you with the best possible support. Together, we can work on the changes you wish to achieve to lead a fuller and more balanced life.
